Part 1

Part 2 Drawing Conclusions about the Discovery of Elements

In the part of the assignment you will use the research of the student in the class to draw conclusions about the discovery of the elements  The Database of the Elements which you have help create is organize in different ways to help you pull out information.  Below are links to different ways to view the database

Type the following answers; due Monday 3/17

  1. Identify the elements that were discovered in ancient times.  In the data, they have been entered as the year = "0" .  Why were these elements discovered first?
  2. Make a histogram showing the Dates of Discovery of the remaining elements.  NOTE: Do not count the same element's discovery more than once.  You can use Graphical Analysis.  You need not include the ones discovered in ancient times
  3. During the era when elements were being discovered the US was not the center of science and technology in the world.  What parts of the world seem to be the centers of this type of science.  List the countries in order of importance
  4. Certain people discovered many elements.  Find one person who discovered many elements. Identify one such person; where did they come from; what elements did they discover; how did they make their discoveries (usually one person will use the same general method to discover many elements)
  5. Summarize the most commonly used methods used to separate elements from their compounds.  Create a chart that groups the elements by the method they were fist removed from their compounds
  6. Look over the dates and method for separation of elements Comparing the dates of discovery and the general methods used to isolate elements from compounds. Explain which methods appeared first, second etc.
