The desert is a place like no other. It can be one of the worst places in the world to try and survive in if you are not properly prepared for there way of life. Deserts receive very little water each year, can be both extremely hot and extremely cold in a 24 hour period, and therefore, is a very hard place to grow plants or raise livestock in. As you can clearly see, the desert is not the best place to begin a family, unless you are accustomed to it's ways, like a lot of people are.

How does this Biome Supply Humans with Needed Resources ?Many of the resources for this area of the United States have to be brought to the people by means of transportation. Cultivating plants is nearly impossible in an area such as this, so much of the food needed by the desert people must be brought in from other areas of the U.S. and Mexico. Water has to be brought here by means of high-tech irrigation canals which run from, among other places, the Gulf of Mexico. Few desert animals that are hunted can actually be eaten, but what little food these people can gather for themselves, they do. |

Description of Farming and Industry in the BiomeFarming is not the easiest task to accomplish in a biome where it rarely rains and the ground is almost entirely made of sand. Cactuses and other desert plants have adapted to the climate, and therefore grow fine, but most types of plants cannot grow in such harsh conditions. Desert communities can, however, have a wide variety of industry in which work does not involve planting. Irrigation companies make a lot of money each year supplying much needed water to desert communities. Import companies and grocery stores are also vital so the people of the desert receive much needed goods and services. Travel assistance companies, such as hotels and airports, also could make quite a lot of money each year with people coming to the desert on vacations. |

The Effect of Outside Groups on this Biomes Economy?Outside groups can be a God-sent to the desert's economy. The prime example of this is Las Vegas, Nevada. Las Vegas brings in millions of dollars for the economy each and every year. Tourists provide for much of the desert's economy |

Summary of the Impacts Man is Having on this BiomeMan is always trying to make better use of this nearly infertile biome. New technologies are constantly being developed to make this barren area more livable to human beings. Irrigation, new techniques in farming, and a desire by the locals to create a more perfect desert society, has all led to an increase in the biome's usability. |

What can Outsiders do to Protect this Biome?Outsiders can have a massive impact on the desert community. People not living in the desert have accounted for a lot of the technology that desert people use in there every day existence. Desert outsiders also have helped save desert plants and animals from permanent extinction.
