Dr. James M. Gay

Superintendent
Dr. Gay attributes much of his professional and personal success to his roots on Chicago’s Southside. His senior history teacher’s obvious love of history and dedication to his students led Dr. Gay to study both subjects at Northern Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree. He went on to obtain a Master of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University and an Educational Doctorate from Loyola University of Chicago. His 25-year educational career includes being a teacher and coach and ten years as Principal at De La Salle Institute. He joined District 230 as Assistant Principal at Andrew High School and then was Principal there for four years. In 2006, he was named Deputy Superintendent and the next year he became Superintendent

Dr. Kim Dryier

Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services
Dr. Kim Dryier joined the District 230 administration in 2011. She has dedicated her career to serving the needs of students with an emphasis on the need for rigorous academics for all students. Before joining District 230, she was Director of Special Education for Community High School District 99 in Downers Grove and Indian Springs School District 109, and served as coordinator of diagnostic services, placement coordinator and school psychologist with the Lincoln Way Area Special Education Cooperative. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from St. Joseph’s College, an M.A. in Psychology with a school psychology concentration from Governor’s State University, an M.S. in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Loyola University.

Dr. Julia Wheaton

Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources
Dr. Julia Wheaton’s professional pursuits have been shaped by growing up in a family of seven with a very strong commitment to education, continuous self-improvement, and the field of teaching. This foundation of support and encouragement guided Dr. Wheaton to study education at Illinois State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. She continued her education by earning a Master of Science degree in School Psychology at Illinois State University, a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Governors State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Wheaton has served both elementary and high school districts in a variety of leadership positions that include assistant principal, principal, coordinator, director, and assistant superintendent. Since coming to CHSD 230 in 2009, Dr. Wheaton has served as an Associate Principal and Principal at Carl Sandburg High School before becoming the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in 2014. Dr. Wheaton is a nationally certified Human Capital Leader in Education (HCLE) by the American Association of School Personnel Administrators (AASPA).

John Lavelle joined High School District 230 in July 2015 from Homer Community Consolidated School District 33C where he served as Assistant Superintendent for Business since 1996. Prior to that, he was Assistant Business Manager there.   Lavelle earned a Master’s degree in School Business Administration from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Marketing from Augustana College. In addition, he served as a Director on the Illinois Association of School Business Officials Board and Chairman of the Will County Business Officials organization.

Mr. John Connolly

Chief Technology Officer

John Connolly serves as CTO for Consolidated High School District 230. He works with a team of experts to provide the best technology solutions for D230 staff, students, parents, and the community. Prior to joining D230, Connolly was the Educational Technology Director for Chicago Public Schools. He has 17 years of experience with enterprise wide technology solutions and educational technology programs. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Iowa and his graduate work at DePaul University. He was honored as one of NSBA’s 20 to Watch Ed Tech Leaders for 2014. John is a Board member for the Illinois Educational Technology Leaders (IETL) Organization.

Ms. Carla Erdey

Director of Communications

Carla Erdey is an award-winning school public relations professional with experience in strategic communication planning, media relations, crisis communication, writing and project management. Her passion is innovative and strategic communication the engages stakeholders and builds relationships. She has conceptualized, developed and implemented communication programs that meet the needs of internal and external audiences since 1996. She joined the District 230 team in 2006. In 2014, she was named Illinois' Distinguished Communicator, the highest honor bestowed by the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association for a career that exemplifies the professional practices of school public relations and for an outstanding body of work sustained over time. To share her experience with the next generation of communicators, she is a guest lecturer for the University of Illinois College of Media in crisis communication, writing for public relations and media classes. She earned a Master's Degree in Journalism/Strategic Communication from the University of Missouri at Columbia and a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Stacey Gonzales has been a part of the D230 team since 2015. Dr. Gonzales has bachelors degree and a masters degree in English, a masters in educational leadership, a doctorate in educational technology, in addition to her superintendent endorsement. Dr. Gonzales is a student-centered leader who believes that all students can succeed and achieve.

Director of Facilities

Bob Hughes has worked in the Facility management/engineering field for over 44 years. Prior to working at District 230, he worked in the private sector for a property development/management firm managing high rise office buildings in downtown Chicago, Oak Brook Il, Philadelphia, and St. Louis.  During his career he has been involved in the construction management for small and large projects at all of the facilities he has worked in. Bob has spent the last 20 years at District 230 as the Director of Facilities overseeing the operation, maintenance and new construction at the school district’s three high schools.

Director of Special Programs
Edgar Palacios is Director of Special Programs. He joined District 230 from Plano Unit School District 88 where he served as Director of Assessment and English Language Acquisition. Prior to that, he was an ELL Teacher/Coach at Lyons Township High School District 204 and a Social Studies Teacher at J. Sterling Morton High School. He earned a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Administration and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Benedictine University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education in History from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an English Language Learner endorsement from National Louis University.

Ms. Dawn Rueter-Cox

Dawn Rueter Cox has a demonstrated history of working in the education including 15 years in the classroom as a mathematics teacher and coach, seven years as a building administrator, and nine years in district administration. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Education from from Illinois State University and an MBA and Administrative Certification from Keller Graduate School of Management.

After graduating from Elmhurst College in 2002, Lisa Shulman started teaching at Stratford Middle School in Bloomingdale, IL. She always had a passion for coaching and working in the high school setting, so when the opportunity presented itself in 2004 she helped open Oswego East High School where she taught and coached. In 2012, she accepted the Department Chair Position for Special Education and Athletic Coordinator position at Oswego High School. In 2017, she accepted the Director of Student Services position in Consolidated High School District 230.

Ms. Tera Wagner

Director of Finance

Tera joined District 230 as the Director of Finance in August 2016 from Crete-Monee School District 201-U where she served as Accounting Supervisor since 2011. Tera’s career in government accounting started in 1993. Tera furthered her education by earning a Master’s degree in Accounting and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting & Public Administration from Governors State University. In addition, she is an active member on the Illinois Association of School Business Officials Professional Development Committee for Finance and Budgeting.
