    • Students who are more frequently absent from school have weaker performance on state exams, higher odds of dropout, reduced psychological development, increased problem behaviors, higher chances of alcohol and drug use, and lower employment prospects (EdWeek).
    • Chronically absent students are less likely to enroll and persist in college (Attendance Works).
    • Students who do not attend school when they are not necessarily ill are less likely to be at work regularly and on time when they enter the workforce (Kane, 2006).
    • Students who are chronically absent face increased alienation from classmates and peers (Gottfried, 2014).
    • State-by-state analysis of national testing data demonstrates that students who miss more school than their peers consistently score lower on standardized tests, a result that holds true at every age, in every demographic group, and in every state and city tested (Attendance Works).
    • Adults who were frequently absent from school as teenagers tend to have poorer mental health outcomes, lower paying jobs, and an increased likelihood of unemployment (Alexander, 1997).
