Parker new Sandburg DC

The Consolidated High School District 230 School Board approved the hiring of Olivia Parker as the new Division Chair for Social Studies, Art, and World Language at Carl Sandburg High School. She transitions to her new role in August.

Parker currently serves as a social studies teacher at Carl Sandburg High School, where for the past six years, she has specialized in Advanced Placement, on-level, and co-taught curriculum. In her practice, she has prioritized developing and contributing to divisional academic discourse related to integrating clear learning targets, targeted checks for understanding, differentiation, and engagement strategies across disciplines.

Previous to teaching at Sandburg, Parker was a teacher for four years in Round Rock, Texas, where she taught AP Human Geography and World Geography.

Parker says, "Sandburg very quickly became my home 6 years ago. This division means so much to me because of how my colleagues have contributed to who I am as an educator. It is full of so many teachers who truly love their craft and working with students. It’s such a privilege to get to continue working with them. I’m looking forward to giving back to the Eagle community in a new capacity.”

Carl Sandburg High School Principal Dr. Derrick Smith said, “With her impressive record of outstanding teaching and her extensive experience in curriculum development and teacher-led professional learning, Ms. Parker is well-suited for the division chair role. I have every confidence in her ability to bring a balanced, student- and teacher-centered approach to the division chair position.”

Parker holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Teaching from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s degree in Principal Preparation from Concordia University, Chicago in River Forest.
