Capstone courses provide students with an opportunity to extend their learning experiences once they have completed the sequence of courses for a particular area of study. A Capstone Course is only approved to qualified applicants. In order to be considered, a student must:
- Be in 11th or 12th grade unless approval is given by the Building Principal.
- The student must have satisfactorily completed the courses within the course sequence.
- The student must have displayed the maturity and initiative to carry out the project.
- The student must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the sequence of studies he/she has pursued.
All potential Independent Study and Capstone Course opportunities will be mutually agreed upon by the student, the teacher, and then approved by the Division Chair. A mutually agreed upon experience must include curricular expectations of the student and how the student will be assessed on those expectations. Once the Division Chair approves of the Independent Study or Capstone experience for the student, the form should be passed along to the guidance counselor for registration.
Independent Study and Capstone Course students do not count towards the overall seat count within a given course.
