A Message from Superintendent Dr. James M. Gay
Updated: April 1, 2020
I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. On March 31, 2020, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced that remote learning in Illinois will be extended through April 30, 2020 in order to slow down the spread of COVID-19.
During this time, onsite learning will remain suspended but our schools’ commitment to learning and education will remain open and learning will continue for all students - just through a different format.
Following the guidelines established by the Illinois State Board of Education, the District 230 administration in collaboration with the Teachers Association leadership has revised our existing eLearning plan to address the longterm need for remote learning. You will find that plan on this website.
Allow me to provide a few highlights before you dive into the full plan.
- First and foremost, our priority is to provide continuous learning for our students while meeting their social and emotional needs. Our PPS staff remains committed to supporting students and staff. Please reach out as needed.
- On Wednesday and Thursday, April 1 and 2, we will follow the existing eLearning Plan.
- To assure that staff has time to adjust plans, Friday, April 3, will be a non-attendance day for students. Staff will have time to meet with their departments and plan for the new eLearning format.
- Monday, April 6, will be the first day of student attendance for the revised eLearning plan. See the full plan for a description of the Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday class schedule. Fridays will be reserved for professional support in the morning and student support in the afternoon.
I know this is not the school year that any of us imagined, but I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have dealt with this unprecedented situation together. I truly appreciate the compassion, flexibility, and dedication each of you has shown during this time. We are a family and we will get through this together.
