Board appoints new member
The Consolidated High School District 230 Board of Education unanimously appointed Dr. Lynn Zeder to serve out Mike Hardek’s term of office until April 2023. Hardek announced his resignation June 30.
A Carl Sandburg High School graduate, Dr. Zeder has spent a career serving the District 230 associate schools and communities. She began teaching in District 135, then served as an Assistant Principal at Prairie View Middle School District 140 and also as Assistant Principal at Palos South Middle School District 118. She returned to District 135 as Principal of Centennial School for four years. She continued in District 135 as Assistant Director of Curriculum, Director of Curriculum, and finally as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for eight years. Currently, she helps train and teach teachers with various types of writing as a Writing Consultant at the South Cook Intermediate Service Center.
“I’ve spent my whole life, both personally and professionally, in the community. I wouldn’t be where I am today without District 230 and its feeder schools. I’ve been afforded so many opportunities, and I’d like to give back to the community which has given me so much,” Dr. Zeder said.
Active in the Orland Park Lions Club, Dr. Zeder is a director for the organization. A perpetual student, she is a reader, a writer, a talker, and listener and is always looking for a next book recommendation.
“The Board of Education is excited to have Dr. Zeder join us. She is a person of integrity with a long history of service to education and our community. She is passionate about the education of all students. Her experience and voice will benefit D230 families and students. We are fortunate to have her join the Board,” said Board of Education President Tony Serratore.
“I am impressed with the cohesiveness, longevity and commitment of the entire Board of Education,” she said. “I respect the work that has and is being done at District 230. I intend to be a good listener, good steward and serve as an advocate for those students who may not have one,” she added.
Dr. Zeder earned a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Middle School Education from Eastern Illinois University, a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Governors State University, another master’s degree in Library Science from Chicago State University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lewis University.
