Tbolts earn medals on National German Exam

This spring, nine German 1 students at Victor J. Andrew High School participated in the National German Language Exam. Three of the students received a Gold Medal and special recognition on the National German Exam Honor Roll for outstanding performance on the 2023 National German Exam for High School Students.

Freshmen Claire Carney, Hayden Cortez and Nathan Fortino scored in the 90th percentile of the Level 1 exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German. In total, more than 15,500 students participated in the exam this year.

The National German Exam, now in its 62nd year, rewards students through an extensive prize program and provides a means of comparing students in all regions of the U.S.

Andrew German teacher Erika Lupacchino said, “These exemplary students all worked very hard this year and absorbed as much German as they could. They have taken advantage of every learning opportunity, and I believe their success on this test will lead to many more accomplishments as they continue to learn German over the next three years.”

Priscilla Layne, professor of German at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and AATG President said, “The outstanding performance of these German students in our national competition reflects highly on their school, their district, and their German program. The AATG congratulates these students for their tremendous accomplishment and acknowledges the great work their teachers do.”
