Connolly named IDEA Educator of the Year

John Connolly John E. Connolly, Chief Technology Officer at Consolidated High School District 230 has been selected as the 2020 winner of the Illinois Digital Educators Alliance' 2020 Educator of the Year Award in the Administrator category. Mr. Connolly was presented with his award at the Illinois Digital Educators Alliance (IDEA) State Conference, held February 24 – 27, 2020, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Conference Center in Schaumburg, IL.


Each year Illinois Digital Educators Alliance selects one educator in each of two categories – one classroom teacher and one technology administrator/specialist, for this prestigious award. Educators are nominated for this award by colleagues, fellow teachers, students, and school administrators who feel that the nominee has made outstanding contributions to the integration of technology and the improvement of teaching and learning in their school or district. Once nominated, candidates must complete an extensive application process that is reviewed, evaluated and scored by members of the IDEA Educator of the Year Committee. Selections are then confirmed by the IDEA Executive Board for final approval.


John Connolly serves as CTO for Consolidated High School District 230. He works with a team of experts to provide the best technology solutions for D230 staff, students, parents and the community. A  visionary innovator focused on preparing students for the global world, Connolly has directed a large scale Digital Learning Program, Google migration, new learning management system, social media expansion, digital citizenship, new website, cybersecurity program, and various other key operational improvements. He was honored as one of NSBA’s 20 to Watch Ed Tech Leaders for 2014.


John is a Board member for the Illinois Educational Technology Leaders (IETL) Organization. Prior to joining D230, Connolly was the Educational Technology Director for Chicago Public Schools. He has 17 years of experience with enterprise-wide technology solutions and has served as a consultant for various school districts focusing on 1:1, data and system management. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Iowa and his graduate work at DePaul University.


The mission of the Illinois Digital Educators Alliance is to promote the development, growth, and use of technology in all facets of education. The Educator of the Year award has been designed to honor IDEA members from throughout the state of Illinois who are exemplary educators and leaders at the school or district level, and who have made significant contributions leading to the integration of technology into the educational process. IDEA is truly grateful to the many outstanding nominees each year, and for all they do for children in Illinois schools. The true winners are students in the many school districts throughout the state where these outstanding educators teach and work.
