District 230 announces two administrative hires for 2021-22 school year
The High School District 230 School Board approved the hiring of two administrators for the 2021-22 school year at its meeting Thursday night. Sarah Smith will be the new Associate Principal at Andrew High School and Jennifer Doede will return to District 230 as Athletic Director at Stagg High School.
Smith named Associate Principal at Andrew High School
Sarah Smith has been selected as the next Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at Andrew High School following the promotion of Abir Othman to Principal for the TBolts.
“Sarah comes to Andrew not only as a divisional leader but a bonafide school leader,” said Othman. “She has an impressive understanding of curriculum and instruction as indicative of her leadership contributions during the past 7 years at Sandburg High School. Sarah's focus is on the importance of strong relationships, teacher connections, and setting high expectations for students. I am excited to see Sarah in her new role as Associate Principal as she will bring her energy, knowledge, and expertise to the position. Sarah's collaborative approach and commitment to positive school experiences for all will benefit the entire Andrew High School community.”
"I am honored to become part of the team at Andrew High School and am excited to join in their collective efforts," Smith said. "The Andrew community is a special place that puts relationships, connections, and student success at the heart of their pursuits. I’m thrilled at the opportunity to work within this culture as the API and will work diligently to support Andrew staff and students. I can’t wait to jump in!"
Smith joined District 230 in 2014 as the Division Chair for English, Music, and EL at Carl Sandburg High School. Prior to that, she served as an English teacher at Lockport Township High School and Farragut Career Academy. While teaching, Smith coached basketball and softball and sponsored numerous activities.
She holds a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master's degree from Olivet Nazarene University in Educational Administration.
Doede named Athletic Director at Stagg High School
Jennifer Doede has been selected to replace retiring Athletic Director Terry Treasure for the upcoming school year. Doede returns to District 230 after serving as the Athletic Director at Joliet Central High School for the past two years. In this role, she was recognized as the New Athletic Director of the Year (2020-2021) by the Illinois Athletic Directors Association.
Prior to her position at Joliet Central, Doede was a Department Chair, Physical Education Teacher, and Head and Assistant Coach at Victor J. Andrew High School.
She holds a Bachelor Degree in Education from North Central College and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from St. Xavier University, as well as certifications as a Registered Athletic Administrator and a Certified Interscholastic Coach. She is also a proud graduate of District 230.
Doede said, “I’m so excited to return to District 230 where I spent 20 years, as a student, a teacher, and an administrator. To be able to continue and build upon the work that the previous athletic directors have done and created is an amazing opportunity.”
Stagg Principal Eric Olsen said, “The staff and administration are so excited to welcome Jennifer Doede into our Stagg family! Her passion, energy, and commitment to the academic, athletic, and social-emotional development of students is well known in District 230. Her leadership and enthusiasm in supporting the further growth of our athletic programming and the students we serve will benefit not only our school, but the entire Charger Community.”
