The Carl Sandburg High School Speech Team recently competed in two tournaments and earned several individual and team awards. This past weekend, the team competed at the Joliet West "Happiest Tournament on Earth" competition, earning 5th place overall with one dozen individual winners.

• Cayla Evans - 5th in Dramatic Interpretation

• Lily Defrates and Bilal Hishmeh - 4th place in Special Occasion Speaking

• Vivian Jimenez-Geiger - 4th in Oratorical Declamation

• Julia Pavic - 4th in Radio Speaking

• Gaby Gomez - 4th in Humorous Interpretation

• Josie Bundy - 3rd place in both Original Oration AND Prose Reading

• Allison Belair - 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation

• Gabriella Virgen was tournament runner up in Oratorical Declamation

• Cayla Evans was TOURNAMENT CHAMPION in Humorous Interpretation

• Naomi Turk was DOUBLE TOURNAMENT CHAMPION in Special Occasion Speaking and Prose Reading

At the H-F Halloween Novice Classic, Sandburg novices performed well. In a field of 20 teams, Sandburg members placed in five categories.

• Caitlin Reiter  - 2nd in Dramatic Interpretation

• Lily DeFrates - 6th in Special Occasion Speaking

• Vivian Geiger - 5th in Oratorical Declamation 

• Aleah Richter  - 5th in Informative Speaking

• Two speakers missed placing by just a single point: Anna Bianco and Sophie Locasio

Thanks to supporting performances by Lara Alkhatib and Monajah Ewuosho, the whole team placed top ten even though we were severely undermanned.
